The Academy for Emergency Care in Sport is a PHECC approved training institution and offers the first National Qualifications for those who offer immediate emergency care at sporting / training events. We are based at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Cork University Hospital but provide instruction at a number of venues Nationwide.
We aim to provide qualified personnel to protect and treat those who become injured or unwell during training events or competition.
Today, one would expect to find adequate First Aid/Emergency Care facilities with trained personnel at all sporting arenas, for all sports, for all participants - adults & children alike, at all times (for games, matches, training and even in our schools etc.) This sadly is not the case. Noble volunteers do not always have the necessary skills to ensure those enjoying the activities of the day will be suitably treated should the unforeseen occur. In many cases the “magic sponge person” or “physio” who covers Emergency Care may also not have the relevant knowledge or experience of dealing with sports injuries.
The certified "hands-on" course of Sports Emergency Care is aimed anyone interested in taking on the challenges and responsibilities of Sports Emergency Care, whether you’re a sports participant, a Sports Teacher, a follower or a club rep.
No previous experience or knowledge is required as you will learn all the valuable, practical skills necessary and be confident in the treatment of injuries and illness that may occur during a sporting event and can include training in the use of Defibrillators.
See the drop down menus for a selection of our most popular courses which also includes Taping & Strapping. More specialised courses and information can be found on the Academy website.
